The role of the Together Ambassador is primarily to bring people together and to coordinate the Together Events and Activities. They are not mental health professionals, but they have personal experience of mental health issues.

A Together Ambassador is passionate about mental health awareness and will encourage people to talk in a safe friendly environment. They work together within the local community to support mental wellbeing and encourage people to make positive changes in their lives.

I hope by sharing my story it will help others to not feel ashamed about their own mental health and to change the stigma surrounding it.

Before I had any experiences of mental health problems I was a happy go lucky teenager, but suddenly that all changed in 1991 at the age of just 19 when my life was turned upside down by the news that my father had taken his own life, nothing prepares you for shock and from that moment it changed my life forever.

Sarah is a Together Ambassador, a Mental Health Champion for England Athletics and a Qualified Mental Health first aider. Here is her story.....

I've lived with general anxiety from a young age, triggered mainly by losing my Mum to breast cancer at the age of 13, and then being brought up by my Dad who was an alcoholic. Back then I’d pretend everything was “normal” in public, but behind closed doors I’d be looking after my Dad, or worrying about where he was, whilst also trying to deal with the numbness and anger I was experiencing due to grief. I was never offered any formal help to deal with what life was throwing at me, and found myself in an incredibly isolating and scary place. Despite academic success at school and beyond I ended up battling my own demons, binge drinking during my teenage years, and well into my 20s. During this time I made several bad life choices, which I now recognise were triggered by how much I was bottling everything up.
